Tears and Glory as Roger Federer Retires from Tennis
An emotional Roger Federer waved goodbye to professional tennis after teaming up with fellow great Rafael Nadal at the recent Laver Cup in England.
The 41-year-old tennis legend, winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles Sports, received a long and hearty ovation after walking off court for the final time. Federer is rightly considered to be one of the best players in tennis history.
Federer cried as he hugged Rafael Nadal and other players, then took in the adulation from the thousands of fans who chanted his name at the O2 Arena in London. Nadal also could not hold back the tears. The 36-year-old Spaniard cried as he sat alongside Federer during a special tribute.
Federer and Nadal – for so long rivals at the top of the men’s game – joined forces to play doubles one final time in the annual team event between Europe and the rest of the world.
